The Police Unity Tour raised more than £200,000 for Care of Police Survivors (COPS) charity this year.
And part of that amazing effort were our colleagues from the MDP!
Care of Police Survivors supports the families of police officers and staff who have lost their lives on duty.
The Police Unity Tour – hundreds of cyclists who had ridden from across the country to the Arboretum in memory of fallen officers – arrived at the COPS Service of Remembrance on Sunday.
One of those riders was Steve McGlinchey, from the Ministry of Defence Police. He said: “I rode last year for the first time with Cambridgeshire, because we’re from the MDP and our headquarters is in Huntingdon. And that was it, I was hooked really. It was a fantastic event. It was very, very emotional.
“I think having lost friends and colleagues over the years in policing, like most of us have, the thought that there’s a charity that can support survivors in the way they do, I think it’s such a fantastic cause and I’m so happy to be here and everybody’s committed like I am to doing it.
“It’s very important because this is a charity so it needs to raise money, and to remember the survivors because, like anything, as time goes on things and events and people get forgotten and things like this keeps their memory alive.”
