In 2021, the Defence Police Federation was honoured to welcome Lissie Harper MBE to our DPF Awards as an honorary guest.
Following the tragic death of her husband, PC Andrew Harper, Lissie had been campaigning tirelessly for stronger protection and justice for police officers and other emergency workers through Harper’s Law.
We were proud to stand alongside Lissie and support the campaign. Harper’s Law subsequently became law in 2022.
We continue to stand alongside Lissie and PC Harper’s family as two of those convicted of his manslaughter remain eligible for early release.
DPF National Chair Eamon Keating said:
“I am disgusted that the individuals convicted of the killing of PC Andrew Harper are even being considered for early release.
This is a slap in the face to police officers and other emergency workers nationally, particularly those who put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect the public.
We continue to stand alongside Lissie Harper and PC Harper’s family.
They have shown extraordinary strength and determination in seeking justice and greater protection for those who serve, and they should not have to face the prospect of those responsible for PC Harper’s death being released early.”
