The DPF was saddened to learn of the passing of former Ministry of Defence Police Chief Constable Jack Aspinall QPM, who died on Sunday 26 July 2026 at the age of 97.
Jack is remembered not only for his distinguished leadership of the Ministry of Defence Police, but also for the enduring legacy he leaves through the establishment of the Ministry of Defence Police Retired Officers Association (ROA).
In 1987, following approaches from retired officers who wished to maintain the friendships and camaraderie forged during their policing careers, Jack supported the creation of the ROA. What began as a small initiative has grown into a valued organisation that continues to bring retired officers together and preserve the strong bonds of the MDP family.
The DPF continues to enjoy a close relationship with the ROA. Each year, one of our National Officers attend the Association’s Annual General Meeting to provide updates on the work of the Federation and to maintain the strong connection between serving and retired members of the Ministry of Defence Police community.
We extend our sincere condolences to Jack’s family, friends and former colleagues. His contribution to the Ministry of Defence Police and to generations of retired officers will be remembered with great respect and gratitude.
Jack’s funeral service will take place on Thursday 27 August 2026 at 12.30pm at Chichester Crematorium, Westhampnett Road, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 7UH. Following the service, all are welcome to join the family at The Lamb Inn, 144 Pagham Road, Bognor Regis, PO21 4NJ.
