A Christmas and New Year message from Defence Police Federation Chair Eamon Keating

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our members for their stalwart and professional work over the past 12 months.

It has been an incredibly difficult year for many reasons, not least being the shortfall we have in resources, which means officers have often had to carry out additional work, with little support.

Change is a common thread in policing, but the past year has seen a massive amount of change that is probably unprecedented in our history.

Unfortunately, that will continue into next year, but with the exceptional attitude and hard work of our members, we will persevere and come out the other side with a better, more resilient organisation.

The festive period is a time where people come together with their families, but we mustn’t forget that a significant proportion of our membership will be working throughout Christmas, ensuring the safety of the nation and looking after the assets we protect.

When everybody else in the country will be enjoying themselves, our officers will be out there doing essential work, armed and protecting the nation 24 hours a day. For that, we are exceptionally grateful.

I wish everybody the best for the new year and hope that 2025 brings them everything they hope for.

Eamon Keating
