Circular 06/17

Today, the Government announced the following “Number 10 have now communicated to us the Prime Minister’s views on infrastructure policing.

Although the PM remains convinced that further integration of the forces in scope (the British Transport Police, the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, Home Office airport policing and the Ministry of Defence Police) is beneficial, due to more pressing departmental legislative priorities, there will not be legislation to take this forward at this time. Instead, Departments (HO, DfT, MOD and BEIS) have been asked to consider all non-legislative options to improve interoperability, and options to improve efficiency and operational effectiveness.

The Home Office has been asked to lead on drawing up an implementation plan for the next phase spanning the next three years. We expect No10 to continue to take a close interest in how this work progresses.”

Clearly, any amalgamation will not at present be considered. Once the DPF have the details of any inter operability review and those in scope, we will update the membership accordingly.
