Annual General Meeting and Reunion 2008

The 2008 AGM and Reunion was held at the Arnos Manor Hotel, Bristol over the weekend 10th-13th October with 94 members and guests that included President Steve Love, CCMDP, MA, FsyI; Patron Jack Aspinall QPM and Eamon Keating, DPF National Chairman. A warm welcome was also extended to Force Liaison Officer, Ch Supt Chris Goldsmith and in particular Insp Angela Harney who maintained the routine contact with ROA. Special thanks were recorded to the Force for the assistance afforded to ROA during the year and to DPF for providing meeting facilities.

As ever the AGM was well attended and members received reports on the work of the association undertaken throughout the course of the year. This year it was pleasing to report that the Chief Constable’s Fund had kindly awarded ROA a donation of ÂŁ1000. Thanks were duly recorded for this most welcome contribution.

This year Assistant Secretary Malcolm White announced his intention to step down from the post and not seek re-election to the Committee. He said he had enjoyed over the years the many challenges faced by the organisation including the importance of improving distribution of ‘Talk Through’ to members and had always sought to promote the benefits of belonging to ROA at every opportunity. He thanked everyone for their support.

The Chairman on behalf of members expressed sincere thanks to Malcolm for his valuable contribution and strong commitment to the ROA over a long period of time and wished him well for the future.

Jon Livitt was subsequently elected to the post of Assistant Secretary.

Other changes to the Committee included Peter Parkes being elected as a new member.

Eamon Keating gave an update on current activities involving DPF and the Force.

The AGM was followed by a presentation on force activities and work of the training school by Ch Supt Chris Goldsmith.

At the Reunion Dinner ROA President Steve Love gave an after dinner speech highlighting key events that had occurred in the force during the previous 12 months.

Generally all who attended enjoyed the weekend event and this year it was good to welcome several new members joining us for the first time.

Next years AGM/Reunion will be held at the Ramada Hotel, Chester from Friday 9th to Monday 12th October 2009. The Booking Form will be circulated in due course.

Financial support from The Charity for Civil Servants

Life throws up many challenges, and frequently they go hand in hand with money worries. Particularly at this current time, financial worries can be intertwined with fears around the pandemic.

The Charity can help with all sorts of financial issues, whether your income has suddenly reduced from job loss or ill health, or whether you’re unable to pay for essential items that need replacing. You may have taken the steps to leave a relationship and need to move on, or you may have lost someone and find it hard to cope financially, as well as struggling with bereavement.

They can’t promise to pay for everything you need, but they’ll work with you to understand what they can help with, and look at your individual needs in confidence and without judgement.

For further information about the many ways the Charity can help, take a look at their website or call to speak to an Adviser in confidence on Freephone 0800 056 2424

My Document Locator

The ROA has made available to members a 'My Document Locator' which is produced in the form of a booklet that can be used as a check list of personal documents that records where key personal records, assets and papers can be located in the event of death or incapacity. It is not a Will but simply a check list. The booklet can be downloaded by clicking here.
